Austrian fencer Rudolf Brosch was a “Linienschiffahrtsleutnant” (frigate captain) from Vienna and the author of “Das Stossfechten italienischer Schule” (Italian school fencing). He placed eighth in the individual foil event in the final pool at the 1900 Paris Olympics. He was the only non-French fencer. His fencing master was Italian Luigi Barbasetti. Brosch later became a long-time fencing master at k.u.k. Militär Fecht- und Turnlehrerinstitut in Vienna. He was also a versatile skier.
