Fencer Roman Fischer was a member of the Austrian foil team that finished an unfortunate fourth at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. He also participated in the individual and team épée events, but was eliminated in the first round of both. He also acted as an international judge at the Berlin Games.
Fischer was Austrian individual foil champion in 1937, and finished second in 1934-35, and third in 1936 in the Austrian épée championships. In 1937, Fischer won a foil team bronze at the World Championships.
After the German “Anschluss” of Austria to the Third Reich, Fischer became a member of the SS. In 1938 he was German foil champion as the first member of the SS. By profession, he was a bank clerk.
