Roger Closset was a foil fencer who competed at the 1956 and 1960 Olympic Games, winning a silver medal in team foil in 1956. A junior world champion in 1953-54, Closset joined the French national team in late 1953. He won three team foil medals at the World Championships, with gold in 1958, and silver in 1954 and 1957. Closset also won team gold medals in foil and épée at the 1955 Mediterranean Games. He won the Martini Invitational in 1955, 1956, and 1959.
Closset later coached the French national team for 16 years and captained it for eight years. He became President of the Association of French International Fencers and Vice-President of the Federation of International French Sports.
