Bernard Morel had a distinguished career in sabre fencing after World War II that reached its peak when he won a bronze medal in the team event at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, alongside Jacques Lefèvre, Jean Laroyenne, Jean Levavasseur, and Jean-François Tournon. This same team, with Jacques Roulot and the non-Olympian Jean Brousse replacing Laroyenne, would go on to take bronze at the 1954 World Championships. Lefèvre, Roulot, and Morel, with Claude Gamot, would just miss a second medal at the 1956 Melbourne Games, finishing fourth. Lefèvre and Morel also helped Claude Netter capture bronze at the 1951 Mediterranean Games. Morel was also selected for the 1948 London Olympics, but did not actually compete. Following his retirement from active competition, he later held several positions in the administration of fencing in France.
