David Bartlett

David Bartlett, 3rd Baronet Bartlett of Hardington Mandeville, was educated at Stowe School, Buckinghamshire, before going to Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. He served in World War II with the Royal Artillery, attaining the rank of lieutenant-colonel, and in 1944 was awarded the MBE. He succeeded to the Bartlett Baronetcy in 1985.

Bartlett, who later became a surveyor by profession, started fencing during his time at Stowe, and won the 1930 public schools individual foil title at the London Fencing Club. After going to Cambridge, he won his fencing Blue in 1933. Bartlett won the British Foil Championship in 1934 and 1935, and after competing at the Berlin Olympics, was chosen to represent Great Britain at the 1937 World Championships in Paris, where he was eliminated in the second round of the individual event and the British team was eliminated in the first round of the team event.
