Biography

Charles Wilson was the sabre champion at the Amateur Fencing Championships between 1904-06 and was the first man to win it three years in succession. Having retired after his 1906 triumph, Wilson returned to the Championship in 1908 and finished runner-up to William Marsh. He was then selected as captain of the British sabre team at the London Olympics and competed in both the team and individual events.

Wilson came from a wealthy family and was a director of Wilsons and Mathiesons Ltd., the Yorkshire-based iron founders and gas appliance manufacturers, started by his father Charles Carr Wilson in 1854.
