Of Polish descent, foil fencer Erk Sens-Gorius finished fifth with the West German foil team at the 1972 München Olympics and won the gold medal with the team four years later at Montréal. In 1969 and 1971 he came in second at the West German nationals. Sens-Gorius also participated in four World Championships. He was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, the highest sports award in Germany.
