Biography

Roma’s Aldo Aureggi was an Italian foil specialist who started fencing with Circolo Carlo Pessina in Roma. He competed at the 1951 and 1952 World Championships, finishing third in 1951. Aureggi was individual silver medalist at the 1953 Summer International University Sports Week held in Dortmund (the forerunner of the Summer Universiade) behind his countryman Mario Favia, and added a gold with the team.

Aureggi participated in only one edition of the World Championships, in 1957 in Paris, where he was on the podium winning a team bronze medal. In his only presence at the Olympic Games, in his hometown, he competed in the team event where he won the silver medal after losing to the Soviet Union in the final. He won one national title, the 1959 individual foil Italian championship. Aureggi was a physician who for many years directed one of the most important clinics in Roma.
