Tullio Bozza was a member of the Italian sabre fencing team that won a gold medal at the 1920 Antwerp Olympics. However, Bozza only competed in the preliminary matches, not in the final pool. Bozza died only two years later, at the age of 31, after a long illness. He had been in a relationship with the Italian writer Sibilla Aleramo (born Rina Faccio). She had dedicated the dramatic poem “Endimione” to him, which was received with booing in many Italian theatres. Aleramo later recalled Bozza again in her 1947 work “Selva d’Amore”. In honor of his sporting achievements, he was awarded a Gold Medal by the Italian Olympic Committee.
