Giuseppe Mangiarotti competed at the 1908 Olympics but is better known as the patriarch of the Mangiarotti family, giving birth to sons Edoardo and Dario, two of the greatest Olympic fencers ever, and the grandfather of Olympian Carola Mangiarotti. Giuseppe started fencing late, at 24-years-old, but after the 1908 Olympics he founded Salle Mangiarotti in Milano, where he taught his boys and many other fencing stars. He continued to compete in masters fencing, winning the Italian title with épée from 1906-27, except for 1913-14, when he was teaching in Budapest. After World War I he became European Masters Champion with the épée.
