Alberto Mancini

Alberto Mancini was an Argentine tennis player who played professionally from 1987 to 1994. Mancini achieved a career-best singles ranking of eighth in the world in October 1989, and a doubles ranking of #79 in the world in August 1989.

From June 1988 to May 1989 Mancini had an impressive start to his ATP singles career. He won his first three tournaments with victories over Emilio Sánchez, Boris Becker, and Andre Agassi. Despite a promising start to his career he failed to win another ATP singles title but he did go on to win four doubles titles. Mancini’s best performance at a Grand Slam was when he reached the singles quarter-finals at the 1989 French Open where he lost to Stefan Edberg. He competed in the singles at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics but lost to Michael Chang in the first round.

After his playing career Mancini became a coach of players including Guillermo Coria and Fabio Fognini. From 2005 to 2008 he was the captain of Argentina’s Davis Cup team.
