Charlie Chase was the assistant secretary of the Tee-To-Tum Athletic and Cycling Club at the turn of the 20th century and was himself a keen sprinter with the club. When they opened a gymnasium at their Stamford Hill cycling ground in 1898, Chase was the Master of Ceremonies (MC) for the boxing events on the opening night. Chase also acted as the honorary secretary of the Gothic Gymnastics and Boxing Society. He officiated at athletic and cycling meetings, and was a National Cyclists Union (NCU) starter. He was also as a boxing judge and referee, and at the 1908 London Olympics was a judge in five bouts, including two semi-finals. He was also a judge at the ABA Championships in the following three years, and the 1911 ABA Championship meeting was his last as a boxing official.
