Biography
Cyril Slatter was born in the early-20th century gymnastics “hot-bed” of Birmingham, but moved to Cardiff in 1909. He joined the St. Saviour’s Club and appeared for them in the final of the Welsh Team Championship shortly afterwards but, unfortunately, they lost the Abertillery.
Defeat by Abertillery came in the Welsh final again in 1912, but Slatter was one of the outstanding members of the Cardiff team, and he gained selected for Great Britain at the Stockholm Olympics that year, although he was a non-starter. At the 1914 Individual Welsh Championships, Slatter won the medal for being the leading scorer on the rings. Olympic team-mate William Cowhig was the overall champion.
