Biography

Wojciech Dryla spent more than half-a-century involved in fencing, first as a competitor, before becoming a noted referee in the sport. Dryla began fencing in both foil and épée at clubs in Jarosław and Rzeszów in south-east Poland. He then worked for the District Fencing Association in Rzeszów from 1965 to 2010, and was a member of the Board of the Polish Fencing Association from 1981 to 2008. In another high-profile role Dryla chaired the Rules Committee of the Polish Athletics Federation. As an international referee he was the Jury President for multiple bouts at both the 1980 Moskva and the 1988 Seoul Olympics, in addition to refereeing matches at the 1992 Games in Barcelona.
