Frederick Hidden was involved with the Leyton and Leytonstone Volunteer Fire Service for 22 years. He acted as secretary and rose to the rank of second officer. Hidden was a member of the crew that finished second in the International Volunteer Firefighting competition at the 1900 Paris Olympics. He was one of the seven Leyton and Leytonstone men to receive a commemorative silver medal. By occupation, Hidden was an Essex confectionery shop owner.
