Frederick Bedborough was the son of a butcher, and worked as an assistant in his father’s shop at Windsor. Bedborough junior was a fireman with the Windsor Fire Brigade and represented them at the 1900 Paris Olympics. Sadly, his life was cut short when he committed suicide in 1909 at the age of 36.
Suffering with mental problems, it was felt that a move to Canada would help improve Bedborough’s health, and a passage was booked for him to depart on Saturday 2 October 1909. Three days earlier, however, while staying at the Star and Garter Hotel in Windsor, where friends had organised a farewell dinner, he shot himself in the temple with a revolver. A verdict of suicide ¬¬during temporary insanity was returned by the coroner’s inquest.
