Thomas Thorp served the Windsor Fire Service for 20 years as a volunteer, having joined them from the London Auxilliary Fire Brigade following their disbandment in 1891. He was a member of the Windsor team that took part in the international manoeuvring competition for British firefighters at the 1900 Paris exposition.
Thorp died suddenly while on duty at Windsor fire station on Easter Monday 1912. He was due to be presented with a long-service medal a few weeks later but the presentation was instead made to members of his family on the day of his funeral.
