Biography

E. Stuart Finn was one of two lieutenants in the Lydd Fire Brigade at the 1900 Paris Olympics that finished second in the Maneuvering, International, British Firefighters event. His brother Harold was also in the team, and when Harold died in 1921, E. Stuart succeeded his brother as captain of the brigade. Finn served as a captain and later major in the 1st Volunteer Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) and, like his brother, worked for the old-established family firm of brewers, Edwin Finn and Sons Limited, and was their secretary for many years.

Away from work, Finn’s great passion was coursing, but he was a good all-round sportsman and was a fine cricketer at Cambridge University. Although he never won a Blue, he served both the Lydd and New Romney cricket clubs with distinction. Finn was also a keen golfer and spent most of his spare time on the links
