Anthony Atusu served as the head coach of both the men’s and women’s national handball teams of Nigeria for more than two decades. Atusu was instrumental in securing qualification for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics for the women’s team, the first time a Nigerian handball team had made it to the Games. After losing to Germany and the Unified Team, Nigeria nearly caused an upset before losing in a tight game against the United States. Atusu was also the director of sports in Sokoto State, where he also nurtured promising talent.
