The son of a former secretary and president of the Amateur Swimming Association, Edward Tackley also held administrative posts within the world of swimming. Tackley jnr. was a handicapper, timekeeper, and judge at ASA meetings. He worked closely with both the Hendon and Finchley swimming clubs, and was at one time the treasurer of Finchley. He was also the treasurer of the Southern Counties ASA, and was secretary of the ASA coaching committee. Tackley officiated in the France - Netherlands water polo match at the 1924 Olympics. An incorporated accountant and chartered secretary by profession, Tackley made provision in his will to leave money to the Southern Counties ASA following his death in 1964.
