Lluís Cillero

Starting out as a swimmer, Lluís Cillero soon joined the water polo team of CN Atlètic-Barceloneta, becoming the champion of Catalonia in 1964. By the early 1970s Cillero had moved from playing the sport to officiating it, becoming an international referee a decade later. After refereeing matches at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, he then had the honour of overseeing matches at his home Games in Barcelona four years later. One year before he retired, Cillero also refereed the final of the 1998 World Championships in Perth. His lengthy career saw him officiate in more than 300 international matches, with him being honoured with multiple awards from the Spanish federation.
