Robert Green

Robert Green started his swimming career with Cardiff Swimming Club and later became their secretary, in the first of many administrative positions he held within the sport. In 1919 Green formed the Cardiff Wood Street Congregational Swimming Club, the first church swimming club in Wales.

Green went on to be involved in many aspects of swimming and water polo, and officiated in a total of seven matches at the three consecutive Olympics 1932-48 as either a referee, linesman, or goal judge. Green played an important role in getting Wales to send of a full team of athletes to the second British Empire Games at London in 1934. He later became secretary of the Welsh Empire Games Council. Green was manager to the Great Britain swimming team at the 1936 Olympics.

Green was the general secretary of the Welsh Amateur Swimming Association for many years and was appointed president just before his retirement in 1948 after 52 years involvement with the sport. In 1950 he was one of the first three honorary life members of the Wales ASA. By profession, Green was the manager of Phoenix Films, a company that hired out films
