A horse dealer by profession, Philip Blackmore was a renowned judge at local equestrian shows around the UK. He was also a well-known show jumping course designer. A former Army captain, Blackmore trained show hunters and jumping horses, and ran his own riding school in the grounds of his home at Brockenhurst in the New Forest.
