Biography

Carl Erik Knös was the son of a major and embarked a military career as well. In 1898, he joined the Norrland Dragoon Regiment as second lieutenant. In the following years he was successively promoted to lieutenant (1903) and captain (1912). During these years, he served as adjutant in cavalry inspection (1909-10), as cadet officer at the military school (1910-13), and in the Military Office (1915-18). In 1918, Knös was transferred to the Life Regiment’s Dragoons but returned to his previous regiment as a major in 1921. Three years later, he rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel at the Scanian Hussar Regiment. From 1926–35 he was colonel and second-in-command of the Life Regiment’s Hussars. He was also a member of various expert commissions.

As a cavalry officer, Knös was a judge in the dressage phase of the eventing at the 1912 Olympic Games. In 1929, he married Edith Ljungqvist (née Pallander). He was made a Commander of the Order of the Sword and Knight of the Order of Vasa.
