Biography

Torsten Rudenschöld was born as a twin together with his brother Hakon, who died just two weeks after their birth, as the son of a cavalry officer. He graduated from secondary school in 1904 and joined the Life Regiment Grenadiers as a volunteer. Rudenschöld then attended the military school and returned to his regiment as second lieutenant in 1906. In 1909, he was promoted to lieutenant and became adjutant and captain at the general staff in 1918.

Rudenschöld was transferred to the Kronoberg Regiment in 1923 but returned to the general staff three years later. He was appointed chief of staff at the Eastern Army Division and rose to the rank of major at the general staff in 1927. He served as a military attaché before he was transferred to the Värmland Regiment in 1933. Rudenschöld eventually became a colonel and commander of the Bohuslän Regiment in 1936. He was discharged in 1942 but acted as section chief and as inspector of local defence at the V Military Area until 1949.

At the 1912 Olympic Games, Rudenschöld was a judge in the dressage phase of the eventing. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the Sword and Knight of the Order of Vasa. In 1908, Rudenschöld married Baroness Lucie Marie Antoinette “Nina” Lagerbielke and divorced her in 1933. He remarried Margit Carolina Gemzell later that year. With his first wife, he had three daughters, and with his second wife another daughter.
