František Dvořák began his military career in České Budějovice in 1892 with the 91st Infantry Regiment. Two years later he was promoted to sergeant in Prague and a year later he was promoted to Feldwebel in Vienna Neustadt. He worked there as a military master of fencing at the Military Institute for Fencing and Physical Education Instructors (Professor des mil. Fecht u. Turnlehrer Institutes) and later in Hranice na Moravě and at the Prague Cadet School until 1918. When Czechoslovakia was created, he joined their army.
As a fencer, he won the championship of Czechoslovakia multiple times. At the age of 55, he moved to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and opened a fencing school but returned to Czechoslovakia three years later. He lived in České Budějovice and continued teaching fencing there until his death.
