Algerian football forward Djamel Menad began his senior career with CR Belouizdad in 1977 before playing with JS Kabylie from 1981 to 1987. From 1987 to 1990 Menad played with the French club Nîmes Olympique, playing in almost 100 matches, before having a spell in Portugal with F.C. Famalicão and C.F. Os Belenenses. He returned to Algeria in 1993 where he played a few more seasons before retiring. Menad won five Algerian League titles with JS Kabylie (1982–83, 1985–86, 1995), along with the Algerian Cup in 1986. He also won the Algerian Cup with CR Belouizdad in 1978. Menad remained involved with football as a coach at various teams in Algeria until 2023.
From 1980 to 1995 Menad also played in 81 matches for the Algerian national team, scoring 25 goals. He was part of the squad that competed in the football tournament at the 1980 Moskva Olympics, where they were eliminated in the quarter-finals after a 3–0 defeat to Yugoslavia. In 1986 he played at the FIFA World Cup in Mexico, but Algeria was eliminated during the group stage. Four years later Menad arguably his best performance of his career, helping Algeria to win the Africa Cup of Nations, finishing the tournament as the top scorer with four goals.
