Miguel Mori was one of the better Argentine midfielders in the mid-1960s, although he never played a match for the national team despite several selections. He won the South American Copa Libertadores three times, first lifting the trophy with Avellaneda side Independiente in 1964 and 1965, and then for rivals Racing Club in 1967. With the latter team, Mori also won the Intercontinental Cup, defeating Scotland’s Celtic in three matches. Racing also remained unbeaten for 39 consecutive domestic matches, a record not broken until 1999. Miguel Mori left to play in Chile in 1968, but was forced to retire following a serious ligament injury, and later ran a bakery. He died in hospital following complications after receiving open heart surgery.
