Raimundo Orsi

Raimundo Orsi was an Italian-Argentine winger who grew up in Avellaneda, and in 1920 he made his début in the Argentine First League with Independiente. After his victory in the Copa América in 1927, his fame came to light during the 1928 Olympic tournament, leading Argentina to a silver medal.

In the 1930 Orsi went to Italy where he first played for Juventus, scoring 77 goals in 177 matches, and then led Torino to five consecutive Italian titles (1931-35). He made his Azzurro début with two goals against Portugal on 6 December 1929 in Milano. With the Italian national team, Orsi became World Cup champion in 1934, and with the Italian side earned 35 caps, scoring 13 goals.

In April 1935 Orsi left Torino to return to his seriously ill mother. He never played in Italy again, playing in Argentina with Independiente, then with Boca Juniors (1936), Club Atlètico Platense (1937-38), and finally with Almagro (1939-40). After moving to Uruguay, in 1938 he contributed to Peñarol’s victory in the championship of that year, before ending his career in Brazil where, with Flamengo, he won the 1939 Carioca championship.
