Argentine footballer Juan Risso played for Gimnasia y Esgrima in La Plata from 1960 to 1964. During this time Risso was selected to represent the national team at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, playing in Argentina’s 3–2 loss against Japan in the group stage. A few years later he joined the French side AC Ajaccio, playing in more than 100 matches for the team, in addition to winning the French Division 2 title in the 1966–67 season.
Injury ended Risso’s career early, so he returned to Argentina and joined the Buenos Aires provincial police force. During the years of military dictatorship in the country, he worked under Miguel Etchecolatz, a senior officer in the force. In 2019 Risso was arrested in connection with a murder that allegedly took place during the dictatorship, with him initially imprisoned, before being released under house arrest.
