Biography

Ron Lord was a football (soccer) goalkeeper in Australia who played in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. He competed in many sports as a youth, but football was his first love, and he started as a schoolboy at fullback, joining Drummoyne SFC at that position when only 17-years-old. An ankle injury limited his mobility and he returned to the game as a keeper. He played for 18 years in the Australian first division, with three clubs – Drummoyne (1947-50), Auburn (1951-57), and SFC Prague (1957-65). Lord was capped 10 times for the Australian National Team. After his retirement as a player he spent many years as a goalie coach for several first division teams, including Western Suburbs, Bankstown, and APIA Leichhardt. Ron Lord is a member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
