Biography

Zou Zhihua began playing volleyball in the 1950s, turning professional in 1958. Zou won titles in the Chinese league and was part of the national team during the 1960s. Following his playing career he became a noted coach in the sport, leading the men’s national team from 1984 to 1988. In 1984 he led the men’s side that competed at the Los Angeles Olympics, where they placed eighth out of the 10 teams. Two years later the men’s team won gold at the Asian Games in Seoul under Zou’s leadership. Following his spell in charge of the national side he then coached the provincial team of Jiangsu until his retirement.
