A freestyle bantamweight wrestler, J. V. Bambridge fought in the inter-War period. In 1929 he was beaten by the holder Bert Sansum in the national championship final at the Orion Gymnasium, London. Still wrestling after World War II, Bambridge was selected for the London Olympics as a reserve to that year’s national champion Ray Cazaux.
