Zé Roberto played for Atletico Paranaense and Coritiba, starting with Atletico in 1968. He was the top scorer that year for Paranaense. With Coritiba he was the team’s top scorer in 1971, 1973, and 1974, and state champion from 1971-73. Zé Roberto retired from football in 1974. He lived the remainder of his life in the small town of Serra Negra, São Paulo, where he died from the effects of an ulcer.
