Biography

From the early 1960s to the late 1970s Stoyan Yordanov was the goalkeeper for CSKA Sofia in the Bulgarian League. With his time with the club Yordanov played in more than 240 matches, winning seven league titles (1966, 1969, 1971–73, 1975–76) and five Bulgarian Cups (1965, 1969, 1972–74). From 1968 to 1977 he also made 25 appearances for the Bulgarian national team. After playing in two Olympic qualification matches, Yordanov was named in the squad for the 1968 Mexico City Games where Bulgaria went on to win silver. Two years later he was also in the team for the 1970 FIFA World Cup, playing in the 1–1 draw against Morocco. After his playing career Yordanov spent several stints as the coach of CSKA Sofia, with his first one coming in 1980 and his final one in 2013.
