Feng Jingxiang

At the age of 13 Feng Jiangxiang started playing football in North China. He came to Hong Kong and started playing for the South China Athletic Association in the 1925-26 season as an inside-left and later as the center. In 1930 he was one of the players who joined the Guangzhou Police on mainland China opposite Hong Kong. On the weekend, he continued to play for the SCAA, which dominated Hong Kong’s football scene for the next decade.

In 1934 Feng was a member of China’s squad in the Far Eastern Games and, although he did not score a goal, his play created opportunities for his teammates. For the 1936 Olympics he had to switch to the inside-right position because Li Huitang moved to the center. After 1940 Feng joined the newly founded team of Sing Tao. After the war he first joined Eastern Athletic Association and later, as soon as the team was re-established in 1946, Sing Tao again. In 1948, at the age of 41, he was selected for the Olympics a second time, serving as captain, and with the chance to become the only Chinese player participating in two Olympics. Due to his age, however, and because no substitutions were allowed in those days, he resigned. For the 1948-49 season, when Sing Tao fielded no team, he was again called by the SCAA, but finally retired after the season. Four of his sons also became keen football players.
