Biography

Pedro Sarmiento began his football career playing for Atlético Nacional in 1976, making almost 350 appearances for the club and winning the Colombian league title in 1976 and 1981. From 1985 to 1989 Sarmiento played in 100 matches for América de Cali, winning two more league titles in 1985 and 1986. From 1980 to 1985 he also played in 37 matches for the Colombia national team, including qualifying matches for the 1982 and 1986 FIFA World Cups. In 1980 Sarmiento played in all three of Colombia’s group stage matches in the football tournament at the Moskva Olympics. After his playing career he became a manager with multiple clubs in Colombia. Sarmiento’s coaching career spanned from 1992 to 2023, which saw him win the Apertura tournament with Independiente Medellín in 2004 and the Finalización tournament the following year with Deportivo Cali.
