Biography

Hamza Abdel Mawla had a domestic career with Tersana that lasted over a decade, during which time he captured the Egypt Cup with his team in 1954. He made his major international tournament début with the Egyptian national team at the 1951 Mediterranean Games, winning a silver medal in the process. His next stop was the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where Egypt was eliminated by Germany in round one, after defeating Chile in the qualifying round; Abdel Mawla played in both matches. He was also a part of Egypt’s unsuccessful attempt to qualify for the 1954 FIFA World Cup.

Following his retirement from active competition, Abdel Mawla turned to coaching and worked with both the Egyptian and Saudi national teams. He later served on the administrative board of his former club and, at the time of his sudden death from a heart attack, aged 63, he was the supervisor of Tersana’s youth squad.
