Moncho Gil was born in Galicia to a family of rich merchants. He played for Real Vigo Sporting and had his first major success at the first Spanish Military Championship, when the Murcia Regiment No. 46, stationed in Vigo, took a 2-0 victory in the final with Gil scoring both goals. The cup was handed over to him by the King. Gil started his career as a defender, but later also became a good winger. When the club merged with Real Fortuna FC in 1923, he occasionally played for its successor Celta de Vigo. Gil earned his only two caps during the 1920 Olympics. Not much is known about his career, but he quit after his 1923 marriage.
