Biography

Maksym Halinichev was a Ukrainian bantamweight boxer. Halinichev had a promising start to his career, winning gold at the 2017 European Youth Championships. The following year he participated in the boy’s bantamweight at the Summer Youth Olympics, winning the silver medal in the final when he lost to Abdumalik Khalokov. In 2021 he won another silver medal, this time at the under-22 European Championships.

In May 2022 Halinichev refused to compete at the European Championships, opting instead to join the air assault troops to defend his country following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In March 2023 he was fighting on the frontline in the Luhansk region where he was killed. He was 22.
