Daniel Xuereb made his professional début in 1977 in Lyon and played a total of 441 matches in Ligue 1 and scoring 106 goals. He played for the most important French clubs, Lyon (1977-81), then Lens (1981-86), before joining the new French champions, Paris Saint-Germain (1986-89). His last pro clubs were Montpellier (1989-91), Olympique de Marseille (1991-92), and finally Toulon (1992-93). Winner of the 1990 French Cup and the French Championship with Marseille in 1992, he ended his career with the amateur clubs of Digne and Pertuis, which he later coached.
With the national team, Xuereb won eight international caps between 1981 and 1989, but his most important victory was the Olympic gold medal in 1984. Xuereb led France at that tournament with four goals, and contributed strongly to the final victory over Brazil. After his playing days, he became a sports educator and served sports in his region.
