Biography

Victor Gauntlett played singles and doubles at the 1908 Olympics. Gauntlett was runner-up at the 1908 South African singles championships. In 1908 he was also runner-up in the All-England Plate tournament, a competition at Wimbledon for players who lost in the first and second rounds of the tournament. Gauntlett reached the third round at Wimbledon in 1913. He also played Davis Cup for South Africa in 1913, losing one of two matches against Canada. Gauntlett won the Kroonstad Championship in 1906 and the Witwaterstrand Championship and Berea Cup in 1907. He was chief correspondence clerk for Rand Mines.
