Jack Neale was an ever-present in the Great Britain team at the 1948 Olympics, playing in all four games. In 1949 he was appointed captain of the English amateur side, at the time he played for Walton & Hersham and is regarded by many as their finest ever player. He was part of the side that enjoyed its two greatest moments of glory, up to that time, when they reached the semi-final of the FA Amateur cup in successive years 1952 and 1953. In honour of Neale’s appearances in the Olympic Games, Walton & Hersham donated the ëJack Nealeí cup to the Corinthian League in 1949 to be played for in a knockout competition by Corinthian League reserve teams.
