Bernd Bauchspieß

As the East German national team won the inter-national qualification matches in 1963 against the West German amateur national team by a 3-0 win in Leipzig and a 2-1 loss in Hannover, the German Olympic team at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics was an East German one. The team won the bronze medal, beating Egypt, 3-1.

Forward Bernd Bauspieß started his soccer career in the Oberliga with BSG Dynamo Zeitz (51 matches/43 goals) and moved to SC Dynamo Berlin (5/3, nowadays BFC Dynamo Berlin) in 1961. As he studied medicine in Leipzig he moved to BSG Chemie Leipzig (208/74) the same year and helped them to win the East German national title in 1964. The club was renamed FC Sachsen Leipzig after reunification.

Internationally Bauchspieß claimed only one cap in 1959. With the East German Olympic team he played three matches and scored one goal. In 1969 he graduated as an orthopedic surgeon and later had his own practice in Leipzig.
