Forward Wolf-Rüdiger Netz was on the final East German football (soccer) squad at the 1980 Moskva Olympics that won the silver medal after losing the final against Czechoslovakia 1-0. He scored four goals as the leading GDR scorer in the tournament. In total, he earned two international caps and 11 more with the GDR Olympic team scoring five goals.
Domestically, Netz played with BSG Dynamo Schwerin and BFC Dynamo Berlin, winning the East German championships from 1979-84 with Berlin. With Berlin, he played 265 Oberliga matches and scored 112 goals. In 1973, Netz was sentenced back from Berlin to Schwerin, after he was suspected to have done a so-called currency offence.
