Biography

Defender Heiner Baltes was a member of the West German football team beaten 3-2 by East Germany in their deciding second group stage game at the 1972 München home Olympics.

Baltes won 23 West German amateur caps between 1971-74, and domestically played 279 matches in the Bundesliga with Fortuna Düsseldorf from 1970-81, and scored 11 goals. In 1979 and 1980 he helped Düsseldorf win the West German Cup, and in 1979 they were beaten in the final of the European Cup Winners’ Cup by FC Barcelona. Baltes later worked with a sports goods company.
