Defender Manfred Bockenfeld was on the West German football team that lost their quarter-final against Yugoslavia 5-2, and finished fifth at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. He won one full international cap in 1984, and played with the Olympic team in 11 matches.
Domestically, Bockenfeld played with Fortuna Düsseldorf (1981-87), SV Waldhof Mannheim (1987-89), and SV Werder Bremen (1989-94), helping them to win the German Cup in 1991 and 1994 and the German Championship in 1993. In 1992, he also won the European Cup Winners’ Cup with Bremen. In total, he played 336 Bundesliga matches and scored 34 goals. He finished his career in the regional league with his home club 1. FC Bocholt. By profession, Bockenfeld later became a freelance insurance agent. He was also an avid golfer.
