Defender Roland Dickgießer was on the West German football team that lost their quarter-final against Yugoslavia 5-2, and finished fifth at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. He never won a full international cap and played only with the Olympic team in seven matches.
Domestically, Dickgießer played with SV Waldhof Mannheim from 1978-94. In total, he appeared in 208 Bundesliga matches and scored seven goals. He also played 254 second league matches and scored 11 goals. Dickgießer later became a coach and worked with SV Waldhof Mannheim, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and, as an employee of software producer SAP, with FC Astoria Walldorf.
