Gottfried Fuchs

Gottfried Fuchs was a member of the German soccer team at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. He played for Düsseldorfer SC 1899 (1904-06, 1914-20), and Karlsruher FV (1906-1914), and won the German national title in 1910, beating Holstein Kiel 1-0. In 1912, they lost the final against the same opponent, losing 1-0. Between 1911 and 1913 Fuchs was considered to be the best center in the world. In this time he earned six caps and scored 14 goals. As of 2016 he is still the top German scorer for one match, scoring 10 goals against Russia in the Olympic consolidation round.

In 1937 Fuchs, who was Jewish, immigrated to Canada. He then changed his name to Godfrey Fochs. Before his immigration he was involved in the wood trade and real estate trade in Germany. During the Nazi regime his name was eliminated from the list of German national soccer players.
