The West German soccer team at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics was part of the mixed German team that was defeated 2-1 by the Soviet Union in the first round and immediately eliminated. Defender Hermann Höfer spent his entire playing career at Eintracht Frankfurt from 1953-67. In 1959 the he won the West German Championship, winning the final 5-3 after extra time against Kickers Offenbach. From 1981-82 he was vice president of the club.
